Ruffie drops his ‘Grief’ EP on Machinist Music
Up and coming Romanian Drum & Bass DJ and Producer Ruffie returns to Machinist Music with his brilliant new EP entitled ‘Grief’. Consisting of 4 huge tracks the EP drops today on Bandcamp and everywhere else on 21st July.
Ruffie has made a steadily growing impression in the deep end of Drum & Bass since his first release in 2013. His sound is heavily informed by the likes of Reinforced Records and early Metalheadz. His beats are both tempered and tough; his tone is both funky and cinematic. Following ‘Downcast’ on ‘MACH X 02’, Machinist Music is pleased to welcome this talented artist with an excellent solo outing.
‘Resistance’ sets the tone with a Source Direct-esqe breakbeat number. Deep breaks, atmospherics, and subs… without a single unnecessary element. Our lad is taking no prisoners on this mission.
‘Unrequited’ demonstrates Ruffie’s musical proficiency and ability to channel his personal life into his work. Contrasting melancholic piano with undeniable late-night warehouse vibes, the track harkens back to golden-era techstep with considerable reverence.
John Rolodex lends his skills with a remix of ‘Downcast’. Offering a more dancefloor-oriented twist on the original, his signature smacking beats accompany a gnarly mid-bass capable of making listeners’ teeth grind while sober. A catchy bleep riff emerges to transport the track to the year 3021.
The title track is another deep exploration inspired by Ruffie’s personal life. Cinematic flavours steeped in emotion are shattered by a modern hard-step rhythm. A familiar classic stab enters the frame for a cameo before giving way to an even deeper breakdown. Another fine example of an artist carefully crafting his signature sound.
