Cybin drop ‘Under The Ice’ EP on Machinist Music
Bristol duo Cybin caught the Machinist Music honchos’ ears many years before the label was founded with the iconic 1999 amen smasher ‘Roller’ on MC GQ’s Emcee Recordings. Machinist sees it as an honour to release Cybin‘s outstanding EP, ‘Under the Ice’. The EP epitomizes a minimal, effective approach to creating top-shelf dance-floor weaponry.
The title track captivates from the first note with mysterious atmospherics and a hint of funk. Twisted mids and heavy subs punctuate a rhythmic head-nodder. ‘Under the Ice’ is soulful breakbeat pressure for the discerning Drum & Bass enthusiast.
Next up ‘Bruck Out’ demonstrates total mastery of the breakbeat. Vibey atmosphericsand a haunting vocal hook envelop exquisitely-chopped amen breaks atop arelentless reese bass. Modern execution of a classic sound made possible onlyby blood, sweat and years.
Continuing the ice-cold vibe, ‘Frozen Cities’ draws the ear with infectious pads only to deliver a heavy sub-bass payload. A snappy rolling break, characteristic of the restrained veteran producers completes the package for an undeniable dancefloor weapon.
The final onslaught comes in the form of our premiere ‘Praying Mantis’, which is a tune ruthless enough to devastate the most hardcore breakbeat jungle crew! Nasty Reese bass and twisted switching breaks tear a hole through the reality of 2021. LIGHTERS UP!
Check out our premiere of ‘Praying Mantis’ below. The ‘Under The Ice’ EP drops today on Bandcamp and will be available everywhere else on 18th June! Make sure you grab a copy from the purchase button beneath the Soundcloud player.
