421 – Cyantific

Regardless of what people tell you everybody needs a little drum and bass in their life from time to time so for this weeks podcast we secured the services of our go to guy when we’re looking for our D&B equivalent of our five a day: Cyantific.

Needing little introduction we’ve long been fans of Cyantific both as a producer and a DJ. Since the early noughties he’s been producing some of the finest D&B music around whilst touring the globe and rocking some of the world’s best parties. Not content with smashing it both in the DJ booth and the studio he’s also turned his hand to running a label with his own imprint CYN Music going from strength to strength and finding its releases becoming staples in DJ crates of many the scenes coolest names.

So with his hotly anticipated remix of Mike Mago’s ‘Outlines’ having just arrived via Ministry of Sound and a series of arguably even more hype generating releases on the horizon we thought the time was right to see him take the reins on our podcast series. Happy Birthday to us!

Sum up this podcast in 10 words…
Well produced musical dancefloor Drum & Bass that I love.

What’s your personal favourite track on it?
That’s tough, but I think overall it’s Culture Shock’s remix of Moko. There are newer tunes on there, but that one I keep coming back to.

What’s the special ingredient in this mix?
I put a fair bit of thought into it. You can easily just go for the latest bangers, but that’s not at all what I wanted to do. There’s some new bits in there, but I really wanted to do a mix that I’d personally want to listen to in a year or two and still enjoy it. Dancefloor D&B doesn’t have to equal throwaway music.

What’s the best gig you’ve played recently?
I did a great show for Viper in December at Fire. It was a B2B with the Brookes Brothers. Playing B2B at a big event is always fun – it adds an element of unpredictability to the set.

What have you got coming up?
The first track in the mix ‘High Water Mark’ is out next month on Viper. Also there’s the remix for the Brookes Brothers that’s out on Beatport exclusively now, and then the remix of Mike Mago’s ‘Outlines’ is out next week. Busy start to the year!

And finally, do you have a special message for our readers?
I hope you enjoy the mix as much as I do!
