Grafta MC drops ‘Recognition’ EP on Monk Audio
This month’s release on Monk Audio is a particularly special one… They are really excited to present to us with a debut 5 track EP from one of their residents, Grafta MC with this ‘Recognition’ EP! Grafta MC has cemented his status in the underground scene as an experienced host, having run sets with the likes of Serial Killaz, Bredren, T>I, Turno, Gray and Alcemist amongst others.
He has also had a string of quality features on tracks that have come out previously on Monk Audio such as ‘Ice Cold’ with ABLE and ‘Dubplate Beater’ with Stillz. Furthermore, he has also spread his wings and has featured on tracks such as ‘Dubplates’ with Kontakt on Pick n Mix as well as gracing other imprints including SINE Audio and Transparent Audio. It was only a matter of time before he got to work and put his debut EP project together.
The First track ‘Chase A Dream’ is a smooth and stripped back rolling tune with fellow Monk resident Max Baker. This is not the first time these two have put music out together, having previously released the banger ‘Remain Unharmed’ on Section 23, which received high-profile remixes from Nicky Blackmarket as well as others. This one is probably the most chilled out track on the release, with Grafta’s motivational flows taking center stage.
Next up is ‘Trendsetter’ with Argentinian producer Yatuza, which steers things down the dark and techy route, a theme that runs through the rest of the EP. Grafta’s deep but energetic flow on this tune rolls in a sinister fashion over this murky beat, mustering up feelings like those experienced at 4am in a dark and packed-out dance.
The third track ‘Wasteman’ is a collaboration with Brazilian artist Dunk, a tune that pays testament to the fact that sometimes less is more. Crafty and sinister flows meld together with the clean drums, gritty growls and rasps to create an up-front minimal dance floor killer.
For track number four, Grafta has teamed up with Dopplershift and Stokka. ‘Two Faced’ is a proper nasty thumper with gliding bass sounds and up-front percussion taking the lead, all tied together with Grafta’s precise lyricism. This one is a statement for sure!
To close out the release, Koax and Grafta have teamed up to present ‘Recognition’. Grafta really lets loose here, exploring personal topics and feeling along his journey, spitting seamlessly over a beat that is sure to bring out a screwface whether you’re sitting at home or deep in the middle of the rave. This one will definitely tear up the dance!
