Renegade Riddims: Bredren
Share
Forged from the embers deep within the crater of bass music, the Belgian-based trio known as Bredren have been honing their signature sound for over a decade as of now. Following their reliable connection and output to various labels and their head honcho’s such as Proximity Recordings, Demand Records, Flexout Audio and Dispatch Recordings, they eventually managed to sign a well-received EP on the infamous imprint, 1985 Music. The single ‘Inferno’, featuring the vocals of T-Man, was damaging Drum & Bass raves all over the globe.
After this unexpected success, Bredren have kept pushing deep Drum & Bass music with consistent releases, international touring and the maturing of their own Brussels-born platform Bredren Invites, promoting the deeper subgenre. Their sound is deep, dark and minimal, but instantly recognizable. In the past you could have seen them hitting up Outlook Festival, Sun & Bass, Tomorrowland, Nuforms, Rampage, Star Warz and they have been playing all over Europe. In other words, these boys are spreading their wings and they are not messing about. Feeling blessed by the acknowledgement and support they’ve had from many throughout the years, we can now safely say the Belgians have established themselves as a household name across the deeper spectrum of Drum & Bass music.
Following on from a recent premiere of one of their latest releases ‘Betta ft. S.P.Y / Decoy’ which came via S.P.Y‘s ever-growing imprint DARKMTTR Records, we snapped at the chance to have the guys appear on our Renegade Riddims series! With music from the likes of themselves, Dunk, Alix Perez, Halogenix, Nymfo, dBridge, S.P.Y, Satl, Leks, Calibre and more, you need to get it on!

Q&A:
Sum up this mix in 10 words…
Versatile, deep, soulful, heavy, dark, rolling, stepping, murky, minimal & smelly.
What’s your personal favourite track on it?
That has to be RWB – Obelisk. Never heard of this guy before, but this tune hits the right spot.
What’s the special ingredient in this mix?
What’s so typical about this mix is that you can really hear the influences of the 3 of us in it and really presents how we play live.
Tell us about your next EP?
The story of this release started when we invited Carlos (S.P.Y) to play at our event Bredren Invites in Brussels. He stayed a day longer and we spent some time in the studio together. Made a track and it has been in every set for the last couple of months. We thought it would be good to release it alongside a trademark solo Bredren track to showcase our own sound, and so the EP was done.
What have you got coming up?
Release wise we have a couple of collabs, remixes & solo tracks coming up. Working on some new stuff for next year as well. Next to that we are working on our own next Bredren Invites installment and our gig schedule is nicely filling up for next year.
When was the last time you actually raved?
Yesterday at Star Warz presents Darkmttr in Ghent. S.P.Y destroyed the place and had a great time seeing the Darkmttr crew (which we are very glad to be part of now :))
And finally, do you have a special message for our readers?
Never give up your dreams.
