S.P.Y drops ‘With You’ EP on his DARKMTTR Records

A little over one year since he launched his new label DARKMTTR Records and S.P.Y couldn’t resist claiming catalogue number MTTR007 for himself. And he delivers four suitably impressive tracks for the ‘With You’ EP.

Moving to London from São Paulo over a decade ago, S.P.Y was quick to establish himself within UK Drum & Bass due to a natural talent for production that saw his first-ever release signed to Metalheadz. Following that he signed exclusively to, and became one of the top acts at Hospital Records. S.P.Y has released LPs ‘ What The Future Holds’, winning the DNBArena album of the year award,  ‘Back To Basics’ and 2019’s ‘Dubplate Style’.

In 2021 he launched his new label DARKMTTR as an outlet for his own productions as much as for collaborations and guests. Since then the label has gone from strength to strength and is in 2022 introducing a number of new acts to the catalogue and spreading its wings with DARKMTTR club shows and festival stages.

DJing worldwide on a regular basis, S.P.Y is able to showcase his well-loved sound that is diverse, unique in quality, and perfectly suited for the dancefloor. Praised by his contemporaries and always high in demand from the biggest clubs and festivals, there is seemingly no end to his meteoric rising path.

Back to this release then, the title track ‘With You’ kicks off S.P.Y’s latest EP with uplifting celestial synth work that introduces a male vocal which helps build intensity until a dark roller with a wobbly bassline enters. A galaxy of deep subs, dark bass, layers of atmospheres and steppy beats all feature here.

The darker depths of the solar system are evident with ‘Event Horizon.’ A slightly sinister intro kicks off the tune helping to cement the mood of this deep roller. As the layers of sounds evolve the energy builds as a male vocal demands we ‘embrace the chaos.’

A haunted tone introduces ‘Life is Just A Game’ – the essence of a female vocal carries the tune with layers of sounds: from a dark bassline to heavenly elements and intense stabs. Rolling beats are the backbone which cements all the ingredients together.

Wait for the drop on this one! S.P.Y gets heavy with ‘Wheels of Steel.’ Pulsating bass and sharp beats are linked to eerie samples, layers of breaks build and build at the drop and a male vocal leads the tempo. A dancefloor killer.
