One of the revelations of 2017, the rising Belgian star that is Charlotte de Witte continues in 2018 with a-gusto as she presents a new EP on the recently relaunched seminal British imprint NovaMute.
‘Brussels EP’ features three menacing techno cuts employing impeccable production technique and moody atmospherics. The title track, which you can hear below, is a restrained burner harnessing strange vocals and stripped back beats over sweltering pads. Elsewhere across the EP ‘Control’ pairs distorted speech with a whirlwind of rumbling bass frequencies, whilst ‘Look Around You’ brandishes trance inspired crescendos with hypnotic percussion.
NovaMute, a subsidiary of the legendary Mute label, rose to prominence in the early 90s amidst growing demand for techno in the UK and went on to release classic tracks and albums from an array of coveted artists. In 2017 they relaunched with EPs from Nicolas Bougaïeff and Terence Fixmer.
