Sol Pillars returns to Calibrate with ‘Sheer / Self-Surrender’

Share

After his previous groundbreaking single on Calibrate Records, South Africa’s own Sol Pillars returns to the label with 2 more cutting-edge pieces of Drum & Bass ‘Sheer / Self-Surrender’, which have enough variety across the 2 tracks to shake a stick at.

With releases across established labels such as Modular Carnage Recordings, Bay 6 Recordings and Propaganda011, Sol Pillars knows exactly what it takes to craft sonic weaponry.

‘Sheer’ takes the front seat in this 2 track single. The track opens up with eerie, space-station-esque synths and atmosphere that eventually diverge into organised chaos as basses rip and tear alongside the bouncy drums. Sheer continues to develop with modulations in the bass and new percussion trickles in alongside gated synths.

‘Self-Surrender’ offers a much less energetic journey for the listener, without losing too many of those experimental sonics that Sol Pillars has become known for. Taking a more experimental approach on this B-Side, estranged strummed instruments dance around bouncy percussion that lays down the foundations of what’s to come. The track drops into a flurry of crisp, clean drum work and ever-moving bass sounds that effortlessly gel together the composition.

Today we premiere ‘Self-Surrender’ which you can check out below. The release drops via Calibrate Records today (1st July) on Beatport, Bandcamp and Spotify exclusively before hitting all other good platforms on 15th July. Make sure you grab yourself a copy from here!
