LabeL: SGN:LtdScore: 7/10

The four man collective bringing the raw beats from Austria, Fourward make their debut outing on Shogun’s SGN:Ltd with the uniquely titled Black Tooth Grin

A marching drum arrangement and riff heavy synths, Black Tooth Grin does exactly as anticipated from these bastions of new wave neurofunk. The beats bang in all the right places, crunching processed snare drums drive the track along at a gallop while the lead line whirrs over the top. If you checked out their last single Sewer Run, again a techy stomper, then Black Tooth Grin should certainly scratch that itch once more.

Guilty Pleasures goes a full 180 degrees with the sound as a more minimal but no less aggy riddim awaits. Double clap snares and growling synth melodies are the order of the day on this one, warping bass hits rattle themselves inward every few bars making this a crafty little two step number.

A solid pairing of tracks from the production quartet for first SGN:Ltd go around. Both layered with tech and neurofunk sensibilities though different in execution and overall content. Black Tooth Grin is body shocking floor fodder, the switches are definitely being hit with that one.
