First Play: Kamalung – ‘My Boy’ (The Golden Boy Remix)

Share

Most of you will know we are big fans of The Golden Boy aka Dominic Hammonds – here at Data Transmission and he had a momentous 2016 after releasing on Glasgow Underground, MadTech, Love & Other and Nothing Else Matters whilst extensively touring Europe. Today he drops his remix of Kamalung’s ‘My Boy’ and we have the first play.

Something of an inventive enigma on the scene, Kamalung is a mysterious figure flittering between house-inflected, future bass and prominently vocal-led beats, as The Golden Boy steps up to strip the track down to its bones and turn up the temperature on crucial, transfixing key elements. Flipping the original energetic cut into a dark, dubbed-out slither of wriggling, acid-flecked basslines that allow the track’s “absolutely beautiful” (Danny Howard, BBC R1) piano elements to take ‘My Boy’ to new depths.
