6 herbert shakes
Fresh off the back of his acclaimed new album, The Shakes, Matthew Herbert is set to release his new single ‘Middle’ – a cut from the aforementioned LP, accompanied by remixes from Kris Wadsworth, Mocky and KiNK.

Herbert has long been considered a musical visionary, pushing the boundaries of sound with concept albums such as One Pig (for which he recorded the life cycle of a farmed pig from birth to dinner plate), Bodily Functions (made from the sounds of human hair, skin and internal organs) and The End Of Silence (created from a bomb explosion). The UK native’s experiments have led him to become the new Creative Director of the BBC Radiophonic Workshop, write an opera for the Royal Opera House and score a film for the BFI, all in the last year alone.

For our Debut Transmission, Kris Wadsworth takes the jaunty ‘Middle’ and twists it into a futuristic stomper. Retaining Rahel Debebe-Dessalegne‘s vocals, but pushing them back beneath the heavy drumwork, Wadsworth creates a little beam of light to poke through the shadows.

‘Middle’ is due for release on August 21st via Caroline International. Stream the Kris Wadsworth remix below and remember you can catch Herbert in action at Queen Elizabeth Hall, London on Sunday 23rd August as part of David Byrne’s Meltdown Festival. Tickets available here.
