Madtech continue building their fierce roster by adding Bristol duo AZ & TOR (singer Aisha Zoe and Rich Main) to a lineup which already includes Citizen, Voyeur, Wave & Odyssey and Krystal Klear. First heard on the BBC’s Introducing series, they first appeared on the label’s fortnightly free download service.
Now comes their highly-impressive debut EP. The title track whips up a dreamy keyboard, classic house No Artificial Colours throb over which Aisha drapes her sweetly haunting vocals to intoxicating effect, uncannily evoking the atmosphere of Lil Louis’ Journeys With The Lonely album. Starting with a Hackney pirate broadcast, the Polkadot remix pits bass-welling broken beat funk against house organ percolations, while No Artificial Colours takes the mole’s stiffie deep route.
‘Feels Like’ and ‘Carry Mine’ continue exploring this highly-individual sound, with echoes of Nu Groove’s deeply groovy vocal outings. Digital only but this beauty deserves the luxury of warm wax.
