Alex AQ’s Quarantine Playlist

Cuban-born and now a resident of Paraguay, Alex AQ, has been making waves in the Latin American dance music scene since the 90’s. Schooled in hip-hop and breakbeat, he began his venture into music in La Havana playing at different block parties and clubs there.

Having moved to Paraguay where he co-created clubs such as FDM and the renowned Sequence, Alex helped to spread the House and Techno gospel booking artists such as Marcel Dettmann, Ryan Elliott, Sterac, Fjaak and the likes in a country who was opening its eyes and ears to dance music. There he honed his craft on handling the dancefloor playing an eclectic mixture of electronic music, as well as developing his studio skills which resulted in releases for labels such as LPZ Records, Valvula Records, Sprout, Evasive Records, Silence In Metropolis, ExpMental Records and the newly formed SQNC Records.

We asked him to pick his Quaratine Picks in a Spotify playlist for you, today.

How was 2019 for you?

It was relatively important to me, professionally speaking because even though I’m locked down since 2017 I managed to release 2 EPs, one in June through Valvula Records with remixes by PLURAL (Metroplex) & Larix (Counter Pulse – MINUS) plus the new Tacumbeats EP on SQNC Records in last December.

Having managed to produce significant events for the Paraguayan dance scene under the Sequence platform, as well as having full support from friends and colleagues around the world.

Being apart from my family, and friends who I had a studio routine with.

Song of the last year?

It Is hard to choose one having very nice music around but Cosmo Lopez – Social media DJs on the rise (LPZ Records), has got a special feeling to me in the last few months.

What’s your 2020 resolution?

Getting my freedom back and in the meantime keep on releasing music as the latter keeps me free in some way, transcending the bars that keep me apart from the outside world. Music has no barriers, so music production is my tool to keep me present in a modern world which needs to feel you declare you alive.
