BuRu – Fitting The Pattern

Label: Konstruktiv
Score: 7/10

Such are the range of sounds that constantly crop up on Berlin label Konstruktiv that it’s hard to know just what the label will turn to next. Well as it happens we now have our answer, and it comes in the form of BuRu, a flourishing production duo whom label head Rekord 61 has cherry-picked for this EP. Whereas many of the label’s most stellar moments have come from more established names, it’s telling that the man behind the music is just as crafty at A&R as he is snapping up some of the scene’s leading lights.

Anyway, I digress, and this one really is just as excellent as anything the label has summoned up to date. Opener ‘Fist’ really puts the cat amongst the pigeons thanks to a banging motif and a penchant for unlikely 8-bit effects. ‘Others’ is more ominous, but really it’s all about the Rekord 61 remix, the sort of weapon that’s indicative of say, Radio Slave, at his most pronounced. ‘Curfew’ goes deeper after, before the remix by Nauruan Stranger completes the package under an enticing ethereal gaze. Majestic stuff all round.
