Renegade Riddims: Katon

Joel Perry aka Katon is a Drum & Bass DJ and Producer hailing from Leominster, Herefordshire, UK. He describes his sound as dark and rolling and takes influences from his early outings to The Jailhouse in Hereford. So far in his career he has received track support from Bredren, Amoss, Kyrist, Wingz, Revan and more.

Katon got into Drum & Bass when he heard ‘Timewarp’ by Sub Focus in one of his mate’s cars back in 08 / 09, and says it must have been on a CD pack his mate had or something. He recalls shortly after hearing ‘The One’ by Mampi Swift and that was it…he got the bug and has been hooked ever since!

He then started going out to The Jailhouse in Hereford most weekends. He tells us “I think they had Andy C in there once, MAD!”

Fast forward to today and he usually finds inspiration in almost anything and everything that 1985 Music puts out and has always been a big fan of Perez, Skeptical and Jubei etc.

He played quite a few gigs last year in Bristol, Manchester and Hereford and even managed to support on a Flexout Audio night. This year he’s upping his skills and running the label side of things at Twisted Sounds Audio and they’ve got a couple of festivals and events lined up but we can’t say too much about those yet! You can catch the label at In It Together Festival in Wales at the end of May on the Area 3 stage. His plan for 2023 is to finish as much music as he can.

My next EP ‘Half Life’ should be out at the end of the month on The Mob Recordings (couple of tunes in this mix)

What have you got coming up? 

I’ve got my ep at the end of the month and then a few collabs that should be seeing the light of day this year

Last rave was Flexout Audio on New Year’s Eve
