DT662 – Demuir

A key figure within Toronto’s fast-rising electronic music scene, Canadian DJ, producer and label owner Demuir is quickly becoming a name of note within the current house music landscape.

With releases to date via the likes of I’m A House Gangster, Robsoul, Hot Creations, Classic and Desolat, the Canadian’s slick blend of classic house with modern touches has seen him become a favourite of many, with Cassy welcoming him as an A&R at her own Kwench Records imprint alongside support from industry heavyweights including The Black Madonna, Loco Dice and Jamie Jones.

Following his contribution to the label’s latest V/A installment earlier this year and a recent appearance alongside label boss Josh Butler at CODA in Toronto, late September welcomes a return to ORIGINS RCRDS as he reveals four fresh cuts in the form of his ‘We Be Houzeln’ EP.

Sum up this podcast in 10 words…
This mix was all about putting the soul into thangs!

What’s your personal favourite track on it?
‘Clean Freak’ by Avesie & Cadence on Witty Tunes.  I love the bounce and human like swing in those beats.

What’s the special ingredient in this mix?
Soul.  We get Funky and Techy, but that soul is always there.

What’s the best gig you’ve played recently?
My surprise B2B with Josh Butler in my hometown Toronto at Coda.

What have you got coming up?
A lot is going on and I’m so grateful for it all! Truly.  Later in September, I have my We Be Housel’n EP coming to Josh Butler’s ORIGINS label and we also finished a brilliant collab track together during his visit to Toronto.  I also have a huge release on my Purveyor Underground imprint with Carlo Lio and forthcoming releases on Detroit Swindle’s Heist and Pet Recordings.  Gig wise, I’m ecstatic that my music and Dj’ing is taking me to Barcelona, Egg Nightclub in London, Bali, and Manila.

And finally, do you have a special message for our readers?
Always be you.

Grahame Farmer

Grahame Farmer’s love affair with electronic music goes back to the mid-90s when he first began to venture into the UK’s beloved rave culture, finding himself interlaced with some of the country’s most seminal club spaces. A trip to dance music’s anointed holy ground of Ibiza in 1997 then cemented his sense of purpose and laid the foundations for what was to come over the next few decades of his marriage to the music industry.
