NUDE161: Juheun

Share

Hailing from the stark and unyielding deserts of the southwestern United States, Juheun emerges from the dust with mind-warping and forward-thinking techno. He developed his sound from dramatic minimal techno with curious and intriguing basslines to the pulsing and hypnotic techno that he’s making today.

Following the huge international success of his immense four-part Acceleration EP on Octopus Recordings back in 2016, the hotly-tipped producer has become a regular fixture on the esteemed LA-based ever since, consistently pushing boundaries with his unique brand of mind-bending techno and unrelenting, avant-garde soundscapes. A permanent resident for Octopus’ hugely successful ongoing Twitch live-streaming programme and with numerous critically acclaimed releases clocked on the label since signing five years ago.

Today, he returns to the NUDE Podcast, check it out below on SoundCloud & Mixcloud. If you are feeling this series, then please consider supporting it on Mixcloud Select.

Sum up this podcast in 10 words…

Raw, hypnotic, with plenty of groove and drive and energy.

What’s your personal favorite track on it?

The obvious pick would have to be my latest collab with Drunken Kong ‘Open Door’. We had a lot of fun making that one, it always gets the dance floor moving.

What’s the special ingredient in this mix?

Traktor. I’ve recently been going back to Traktor for my DJ sets instead of the CDJs. I’ve been taking my sound a bit more down the hypnotic and raw direction and using Traktor really helps me take things to the next level with the more stripped-back techno. I find the looping is just way more robust and using Traktor with this type of sound just elevates my mixes to a different level that CDJs just can’t do. Don’t get me wrong, I still love my CDJ3000s for peak time and driving techno, but when it comes to the more deeper stripped-back stuff, it’s gotta be Traktor.

Tell us about your next EP?

I’m currently back in the studio now after returning from my Live tour. I spent most of the year preparing for the live show, and all my studio time was focused on that. Now that I’m finished with that, I can go back to focusing on my next EP which will be more on the raw sound with more groove. Less peak time and more hypnotic.

What have you got coming up?

I’ll be head down focused in the studio working on my next EP and going back to my DJ gigs. The little break I had with the live tour was epic, but my heart lies with DJing and it’s time to get back in the booth! I’m excited to take my sound even deeper with this next EP, and that energy will carry over to my upcoming DJ sets as well. I’m also currently working on a couple of new exciting projects that I will share with everyone real soon!

And finally, do you have a special message for our readers?

Thank you, guys, for your continued support and listening to my music. Your energy on the dance floor is what keeps me going. Don’t ever stop!
