As you may have guessed we love a good remix competition here at DT. Yes, sometimes we just get the urge to hear something completely different and listen to something wherein we have no idea what’s coming in next and it’s at times like these we turn to you the great general public to introduce us to the next big thing. Now one of the best ways we can think of that hidden gems are unearthed and new talent thrust from the bedroom into the international spotlight is the humble remix competition and we enjoy breaking new talent so much that we have one running with esteemed D&B label CIA Recordings at the moment hoping to find the next Andy C or Calibre.
Drum and bass not really your thing? Worry not young producer as we aren’t the only outfit giving up and coming producers the chance to deliver imaginative reworks with Telekom Electronic Beats and Volkswagen announcing their own Europe-wide Yellofier Remix Contest.
For the uninitiated Yellofier is an innovative music app created by Swiss avant-gardists Yello. Following its success on iOS it has now jumped across the mobile device aparthied launched also for Android. To celebrate the move a free special remix version of the app, called Yellofier VW, has been created for this contest where the participants can record their own sounds and rearrange sound elements from the new Yello song “Move, Dance, Electrified”.
With first place prize an electric Volkswagen e-up! and a trip to an European Electronic Beats Festival of the winner’s choice this is a competition that certainly gives you budding remixers plenty of bang for your buck. The snazzy new wheels aside, the best contestants will all get the chance to present their track at “electrified! the e-mobility weeks by Volkswagen“ in Berlin (March 8-21, 2014). Sound good? Anyone from professional sound experts to housewives are welcome to participate in the contest and having given Yellofier a go ourselves we can vouch that anyone can create a full song within minutes irregardless of musical knowledge (or in our case lack there of).

The Yellofier Remix Contest takes place in conjunction with the app’s Android-launch and “electrified! the e-mobility weeks by Volkswagen“ in Berlin (March 8-21, 2014). The Yellofier VW app and contest participation are free of charge.
Boris Blank, musical mastermind behind sound avant-gardist duo Yello, and Telekom Electronic Beats first presented the innovative music/recording app Yellofier in the spring of 2013. Music producer Håkan Lidbo and a team of designers, developers and programmers from Sweden collaborated closely on this project.
The app features a drum computer, sequencer, special effects, and sampler. It even takes any recorded sounds, slice them up and arrange them into funky rhythms and let them modify through Yello’s signature sounds. The interface is totally unique, easy and intuitive. Songs can be made collaborative by sending arrangements between friends. When a song is ready it can be emailed or shared on Soundcloud or social media. Yellofier is a fascinating and futuristic way to create music. Foolproof and user-friendly, the app wows experienced producers and laymen alike.
The contest aims to reimagine the song “Move, Dance, Electrified” with custom produced sound elements by Boris Blank through a specifically created, free variation of Yellofier. Users are also welcome to experiment with their own sound recordings, as the app is able to add collected audio to the track within seconds. For instance, the sound of a car door slamming shut can be turned into the song’s kick drum line. Sounds and special effects can easily be modified through colored cube-buttons – A visually supported, intuitive interface experience designed to allow the composition of a unique piece of music.
Once the song is finished, it can be uploaded to Yellofier.com via Soundcloud. Now it’s up to the community: Contestants should use the opportunity to garner as many votes from friends as possible. Enough votes will earn the song a spot on the top 50 list, from which an expert panel – including Yello as well as Electronic Beats and Volkswagen professionals – will select the best tracks and, finally, the contest winner.
The winner can look forward to:
In addition to the free Yellofier VW app, the app is available also as Yellofier Original for Android and iOS to purchase at Apple’s App Store and Google Play. The Pro-version comes with 6 preset banks, which makes a total of eight banks, including the two user recording banks. Each step can be pitched individually + / -12 steps so any sound can be played as melodies. There are also other 48 exclusive bundled sounds by Boris Blank as well as further songs and sounds by the finest artists within electronic music: Carl Craig, Henrik Schwarz, The Orb, Trentemøller, Booka Shade, Orbital, The The, Thomas Fehlmann, Charles Webster, Håkan Lidbo and more…
