Listen to a Pure tribute mix by JD Twitch

Ahead of the Boiler Room & Ballantine’s Scotch Whisky Stay True event in Edinburgh on June 4th, JD Twitch has turned out a retrospective set celebrating his years at the city’s legendary Pure nightclub.

Taking place across four venues, the Stay True event will showcase the links between Scotland and Detroit through their respective techno scenes. As a stalwart of the Scottish scene – initially with Pure and as the founder of Glasgow party Optimo – we can’t think of anyone better than JD Twitch to get us warmed up.

“It’s hard to try to showcase what was played at Pure, which ran for exactly ten years, in a 30 minute mix but here’s an attempt at what the early days of Pure might have sounded like,” says JD Twitch. “I’m not particularly nostalgic but subconsciously possibly have a thing about the period from 1987 – 1992 as all the records I grabbed to go on the mix turn out to be from that period.  It was a time when the music was developing at a breakneck pace and literally each week would bring wild new sonic innovations. I can still vividly recall the incredible sense of anticipation and excitement I’d feel every week knowing I was going to get to play these then state of the art sounds on a massive sound system to a feverishly enthusiastic crowd.”
