You may remember us waxing lyrical about the raw mid-80s spirit of Chicago acid house and early techno startlingly resurfacing via a young DJ-producer from Hamburg called Helena Hauff, whose Werkdiscs’ debut EP was a ferocious gesture of analogue defiance. While running the Birds And Other Instruments night at Hamburg’s Golden Pudel club, she has quickly built a fierce reputation courtesy of her sizzling DJ sets performed on vinyl, while recording on analogue gear, usually in just one take.
As a result, Helena’s ever-questing sound pulses with the same dark energy which imbued early Trax and UR adventures and has seen us at Data Transmission become some of her most devoted fans. Excitingly for us she is returning for a second time this winter following on from the issuing of a new 4 track EP via Zurich based imprint Lux, with the release of a new collaborative effort with fellow Golden Pudel resident F#X as Black Sites.
Set to arrive December 15 via PAN the new 12” should serve as just the acid laced tonic we need to cut through the fat this Christmas.
