Who said pop music was all generic crap? Fluff and nonsense? Well whoever you are come and eat your crow as I Heart Sharks become the latest in a long line of artists to show that every genre has something worthwhile to offer with the awesome rework from Etnik .
Ambitious musical escapism, I Heart Sharks aren’t like other pop artists you’ve heard simply because as people they aren’t like other artists you’ve heard. Don’t be fooled by their releasing Island Records. There were no X-Factor back up plans if this project didn’t work out for members of this outfit. They formed after members Pierre Bee, Simon Wangemann and Martin Wolf enjoyed a chance meeting in Berlin techno Mecca Berghain and recorded their first EP for Island in a disused textile mill in Manchester. As we keep saying these are not your conventional popstars.
What has really grabbed our attention this week though is this excellent remix from Skrillex protégé Etnik with the Hamburg native expertly reworking the title track of the bands new ‘To Be Young’ EP. Retaining the youthful vibrancy that flows through the original whilst placing his own distinct signature on the track as a dancefloor mover we’d be lying if we didn’t say it was much more to our tastes than the chart friendly original. Great work Etnik!
