Remember when Myspace was cool? When it showcased new artists and genuinely provided an alternative to the relentless slew of chart friendly acts being pushed by other forms of media? We do with great fondness and wonder why the formely great music social network doesn’t fulfill that function anymore. One of the electronic music scene’s success stories however remains a by-product of the format in the helping the Netherlands Egbert Van Der Gugten rise from relative obscurity to playing some of the coolest clubs and festivals all over the world.

Discovered by Secret Cinema who chanced upon his profile he then went on to make his debut on Lo-Fi Soul, before further forging a reputation as one to watch with the release of his “Vlammen-EP” on Michel de Hey’s EC Records, which went down a bomb on the dancefloors and belonged to the basic vinyl inventory of Sven Väth’s record case over the course of that season.

Seeking to provides us with a musical exclamation mark that sets standards in harmonic but consequently demanding Tech-House somewhere in between Dub, Progressive House and Detroit Egbert now finds himself on the roster of the dutch label GEM and the worlds biggest techno label Cocoon playing  major festivals and clubs around the world and has undertaking remixes scene luminaries such as; Funk D’Void, Secret Cinema, Carl Cox and Marc Romboy to name but a few.

So to celebrate the release of his hotly anticipated debut album ‘Warm’ Egbert has generously provided us with the opening track of his LP ‘Fonkel’ to give away as a free download. Reminding us of early Border Community releases we’re sure it’ll be a winner with both fans and DJs alike.
