Crookers recent switch up of genre from the thrashing EDM to a more soulful deeper vibe, has left us at Data Transmission with big smiles.  We have been fans of Francesco ‘Phra’ Barbaglia (aka Crookers) for a long time and didn’t really enjoy their EDM adventure.

‘A Place In My Heart’ is the new single on Defected Records which features the soulful sounds of Kym Mazelle’s 1998 single of the same name. It’s an unusually minimal sound from Crookers but it works, demonstrating his talent for perceptive teamwork.  Phra is no stranger of course to enlisting friends and fellow musicians to his records and has done it at every point during his career. Most notable for his remix of Kid Cudi’s ‘Day ‘n’ Nite’ in 2008 that reached #2 in the UK charts, as well as incredible tracks with Roisin Murphy and Major Lazer (to name only a few).

Grahame Farmer’s love affair with electronic music goes back to the mid-90s when he first began to venture into the UK’s beloved rave culture, finding himself interlaced with some of the country’s most seminal club spaces. A trip to dance music’s anointed holy ground of Ibiza in 1997 then cemented his sense of purpose and laid the foundations for what was to come over the next few decades of his marriage to the music industry.
