It’s been quite a year for electronic music with a variety of albums and singles cracking the mainstream chart in a way many major labels didn’t think was previously possible. Now imagine what a vintage 12 months it would be if we could top off the year by ensuring a track from the dance world topped the charts for the UK coveted Christmas number 1 spot?

Well imagine no longer as a Facebook campaign has got underway to get the VIP edit of Boddika and Joy Orbison’s ‘Mercy’ to the top of the charts ahead of whatever dirge the X Factor will be releasing this December.

Headed by two producers under the monikers of DE$iGNATED and TÂCHES the group posted “If we are to get Mercy VIP to get anywhere near beating whatever colourful tripe spews from the jaws of the X-Factor this year, we’re going to need a hell of a lot of awareness.”

With Facebook likes currently sitting over 7,000 and support received from the likes of Disclosure and Skream with the latter promising he give away his back catalogue if it happens, it seems to us a small price to pay. So let’s get Mercy to number 1!

Grahame Farmer’s love affair with electronic music goes back to the mid-90s when he first began to venture into the UK’s beloved rave culture, finding himself interlaced with some of the country’s most seminal club spaces. A trip to dance music’s anointed holy ground of Ibiza in 1997 then cemented his sense of purpose and laid the foundations for what was to come over the next few decades of his marriage to the music industry.
