Airhead To Release Debut Album on R&S

It’s amazing how talented artists band together even before they’re successful isn’t it? Take the French electro scene for example where most of the key players had known each other long before they became global stars. Another such example is the childhood friendship between James Blake and Rob McAndrews, also known as Airhead who is now set to release a full studio album of his own on Belgian electronica institution R&S.

For Years marks the four year transition from student producer to international touring musician, playing to vast audiences across the world as guitarist for pal James Blake, writing and jamming in the studio with James and Brian Eno, and DJing at some of the worlds coolest nightspots . However it very nearly didn’t happen at all with the talented producer only getting into electronic music in his late teens after having a moment of clarity as he says he had a sudden realisation that music wasn’t notes or chords on a page, and wasn’t something conceptual, but “was just manipulation of sound to evoke emotion. It might seem simple or obvious but it changed how I approached music, and even though it was four or five years ago, it still sticks with me now”

Well we’re glad you did Rob as we’re looking forward to hearing what you have cooked up for the album and with illustrious names such a Mr. Blake set to appear you wouldn’t bet against it only being a short time before your name is equally up in lights.

Airhead’s ‘For Years’ will be available via R&S Records 10th June 2013

Grahame Farmer

Grahame Farmer’s love affair with electronic music goes back to the mid-90s when he first began to venture into the UK’s beloved rave culture, finding himself interlaced with some of the country’s most seminal club spaces. A trip to dance music’s anointed holy ground of Ibiza in 1997 then cemented his sense of purpose and laid the foundations for what was to come over the next few decades of his marriage to the music industry.
