Girl Power At Glastonbury Sees Female Artist Streams Spike

The chances are you’re already familiar with Glastonbury and what it’s about so we’ll leave the lengthy descriptions of the Micheal Eavis‘ farm and what goes on there to those writing up their recaps of this year’s goings on down in Somerset. Something we noticed amongst the mud, music and mayhem was just how strongly women were represented at this year’s festival with female artists delivering – for us at least – the majority of the stand out performances we were fortunate enough to witness.

And the stats back us up, with those in attendance and watching at home  seemingly similarly impressed by the talent on offer  music-streaming service Google Play Music’s numbers are anything to go by. Female fronted Scottish synth pop band Chrvches, French songstress Christine and The Queens and fast rising pop starlet Dua Lipa all saw demand for their music soar, with streams shooting up by 94, 87 and 41% respectively this week.

“Glastonbury is a hotbed for musical talent of all genres, with emerging stars and longstanding household names putting on career defining performances said Rory Woodbridge, Streaming lead for Google Play Music in Europe. “With more music fans streaming music than ever, our listening patterns give us the perfect indication of who really wowed. It’s clear here, that emerging female acts led the charge at the weekend, with Christine and The Queens, Dua Lipa and Chvrches all coming out on top.”
