Vex joins Rollout Records with ‘Never Be Enough’ EP
The first release for Rollout Records comes from talented up and comer Vex whose versatility in production shines through in his debut EP ‘Never Be Enough’.
Hull based Vex began his journey into Drum & Bass like many of us, religiously listening to CD’s containing stone cold classics such as those found on DJ Hype’s iconic ‘Jungle Massive’ LP. This quickly became an obsession, leading to Vex starting on his production journey at age 15. He built on influences from the old skool jungle sound prevalent in the CD’s he grew up listening to, balanced with sounds more prominent in today’s scene.
It wasn’t until the last 18 months when Vex really started to hone in on more technical aspects of his production, consequently gaining well-deserved support for his release on Subplate Recordings and contribution to Hyperactivity Music’s ‘Polychrome Vol. 4‘.
The support for Vex does not stop there. Through various free downloads on Soundcloud and an active residency with Free Drum and Bass Records, Vex continues to showcase his versatility, creating both heavy hitting Drum & Bass bangers and memorable tearout jungle tracks.
The title track and our premiere today, ‘Never Be Enough’, features the rich low range vocals of Lauren Walton coupled with a driving underlying bass. Next up ‘Badman’ showcases Vex’s darker minimalistic approach, focusing on layering percussion over a heavier hitting bassline. A mysterious intro builds the foundations for ‘Soundclash‘, leading to strong growling bass stabs and clean percussive fills. Vex rounds off the EP with ‘Pull Up‘ – a signature tearout jungle track consisting of tight drums and a vibey bassline almost impossible not to screw your face to!
Check out our premiere of ‘Never Be Enough’ below. The EP drops on Rollout Records on Friday 30th April, you can grab it from the purchase button beneath the Soundcloud player!
