Soul Intent set to drop ‘Everything And Nothing’ LP

Soul Intent delivers his second studio album, this time on Dope Plates, the 90s influenced sub-label for his Lossless Music imprint.
Soul Intent aka Alex Judd has been DJ’ing since he was 15. On arriving at University at Nottingham Trent in 2000 he got his first main room gigs at various nights in the midlands including Detonate, Bassic, Breakthru and Flatliners (as well as a show on Nottingham Trents Fly FM). In 2005 Alex set up Brutal Recordings with a few other Nottingham based DJ’s and producers under the name. The label managed two releases before it was abandoned.
Frustrated with how slow things were going, and not being able to get tracks finished the way he’d like, Alex spent months working on his mixdowns and production. Then December 2006 he sent off a CD to Mary Ann Hobbs at Radio 1. Pretty much straight away she got in touch, saying she was going to play ‘Jus Vibe’ (Blindside Recordings) on her show that same week. A few days later after DJ Flight played ‘Bibio Dub’ on her Next Chapter show on Radio 1’s digital station 1xtra. Then shortly after Christmas Grooverider played ‘Bibio Dub’ on his Friday night Radio1 show. “I’m expecting big things from this guy” remarked Grooverider.
Now, with a huge amount of vinyl appearances behind him, Soul Intent continues to build a reputation for producing and DJ’ing exciting and fresh music on top of running this own labels Lossless Music and sub-label Dope Plates. He also produces 140bpm music under the alias Odyssia.
‘Everything And Nothing’ sees Soul Intent reach back 25 years to the sounds and vibes that soundtracked his teenage years in the mid-90s. It was this period when he first discovered rave and jungle through his brother’s CD collection, MTV’s Party Zone and Dreamscape tape packs, which were being passed around at school.
Some of the track names refer to memories from this era including ‘Standard Deluxe’ (a long since defunct skate/surf clothing brand) and ‘Tribal Gathering’ – the legendary 1993 rave put on by event organisers Universe.
Check out our premiere of ‘Your Ghost’ below, which takes me right back to the old days. Soul Intent drops ‘Everything And Nothing’ on Bandcamp today, it will be available on all other platforms on 5th February. Make sure you grab it from here
