Renegade Riddims: Unknown Face

Unknown Face is the alias of UK producer Stacey Buche, a distinctive voice in modern underground Drum & Bass. Depth, atmosphere and meticulous craftsmanship define the sound. A decade deep into developing it, Stacey has stayed committed to substance over hype, building a catalogue that reflects an uncompromising approach to production and musicality alike.

His roots go back to the genre’s earliest days. Buche cut his teeth on pirate radio in South London in the early 90s, broadcasting with Flex and Future FM before joining the No U Turn stable of DJs and producers, based out of the Acton studio that ran from 1992 to the early 2000s. His early releases came out via Saigon Records, a No U Turn offshoot label. He’s spoken about booking studio time there in ’94, a session that saw Jon Carter (Monkey Mafia) drop by and cut an Amen mix of his track ‘Dat’s Cool’ for the EP.

Drawing from the deeper, more cinematic side of the genre, Unknown Face balances rolling grooves with rich textures, intricate sound design and understated emotion. The productions work equally well on late-night dancefloors and in immersive home listening, earning support from DJs who value thoughtful, forward-thinking music. He also records under the alias Pink Octopus, including the ‘Spy Technologies’ releases.

His catalogue spans respected labels including Soul In Motion Records, CNVX London, Saigon Records, DSCI4 and No U Turn: steady output that’s established him as one of the underground’s most consistent and distinctive producers.

His relationship with Soul In Motion began in 2023 and has become a defining chapter in his career since. A run of acclaimed EPs, ‘MF Death’, ‘Underground Sound’, ‘Circles’ and ‘Autozone’, saw him continue to evolve the sound while staying true to the deep, atmospheric aesthetic that’s become his signature.

In 2026, that journey culminated in ‘Unknown Face’, his self-titled debut album and the first full-length artist album released on Soul In Motion Records. Developed over several years, the twelve-track project is his most complete artistic statement to date: an artist focused on timeless Drum & Bass that values mood, space and musical depth over passing trends.

To mark the release, Unknown Face has put together an exclusive mix for Renegade Riddims. Running 1hr 23mins, it pulls together material from his forthcoming album alongside cuts from across his catalogue, offering a fitting overview of the sound he’s spent a decade refining: deep, atmospheric, and built for the long haul.
