Phatt joins Hyperactivity with ‘Never Too Late’

Share

Phatt is about to enter the realms of Hyperactivity Music with his carefully fashioned cuts and as a producer, he needs very little introduction. Being an ex-DJ of the English label Funkatech and having taken part in Marseille’s biggest drum & bass parties, DJ Phatt has been a pillar of the genre’s underground scene in the south of France throughout his career. For a good decade, he has stood at its helm whilst co-hosting events over several of these years, this is one of the main reasons why he fell under the guise of Hyperactivity’s head honcho BRK. As well as being a founder of Longchamp Blaster Radio, his influence can be heard throughout France and beyond, which is why many of his longstanding listeners will welcome his move to Hyperactivity, for his music.

The ‘Never Too Late’ EP stands as his first, with three brand new cuts from the producer, each showing his impeccable production skills, as well as his ability to bond the lighter and darker elements of drum & bass. Kicking off with ‘Consciousness’ setting the tone alongside strangely alluring chopped vocals and a tinkling introduction, one which suddenly is cut by low growling levels of sub-bass. Breaks then begin to cut through an amalgamation of elements, giving the track a sharper power. Coming up next is ‘Burning Sensation’, with scuttling cowbell rolling against the track’s jaunty drum sequences, the type to dip in and out of the mix before cutting out to leave you free-falling between his complex composition. The latter part of the tracklist comes in the form of our premiere and title track ‘Never Too Late’. Its thumping pads of bass combine against strummed synthesis and kicking drums to build an almost sci-fi like soundscape. As the track then drops, it becomes more brooding, however still showing its ability to catch a groove through each shaking pattern of kicks.

With Hyperactivity adding Phatt into their roster, together they prove what two decades of experience within a genre can provide.
