Monika drops his ‘Pogo’ EP on his own label
Someone who has been making waves in the Drum & Bass scene in recent times is UK-born, New Zealand based Maxwell ‘Monika’ Sweeney.
Maxwell has been busy carving out a rather impressive portfolio over the past few years. He has racked up releases on imprints such as Soulvent Records, Shogun Audio and Fokuz Records. He also boasts an impressive catalogue of moods ranging from atmospheric halftime beats to techy dancefloor rollers. As of November 2018, he continues to host the weekly 170+ Drum & Bass show on RDU FM in Christchurch (NZ), showcasing all the best stuff from across the scene and beyond.
After moving country to be with the girl of his dreams, Monika has been looking to show off the beautifully grungy New Zealand Drum & Bass scene. Monika’s ‘Pogo’ EP is the debut release on his label Music Monika and it takes huge inspiration from Christchurch club music. The EP unleashes a swash of nostalgic acid basslines and lairy beats, finishing off with a delicate and moody remix from the talented ‘Silence Groove’.
As Monika keeps progressing onwards and upwards on his musical journey, it would be wise to keep him in your hearts and headphones.
