Medicine Drops ‘Just Walk Away’ on Make Your Era

Some tunes ask nicely. Medicine‘s ‘Just Walk Away’ doesn’t bother. Landing on Make Your Era, it puts a soulful female vocal up front, sets rolling drums underneath and adds enough bass pressure to keep the floor locked in until the lights come up. The title says leave. The groove says stay. We know which one we’re listening to.

Ascot might not be the first place that springs to mind when you think of Jungle heritage, but Medicine is doing his bit to change that. He’s part of a new crop of producers who refuse to pick a side, pairing proper songwriting and melody with the heavier drums and bass of modern Drum & Bass. Picking sides is overrated anyway.

The heads have already clocked it. K Motionz, Ed Solo and Sub Zero have all shown love, while Make Your Era boss Vibe Chemistry dropped one of Medicine’s tracks into a BBC Radio 1 mix. Not a bad way to get noticed.

So, the tune. It opens with the vocal front and centre, giving you a moment to settle in. Then the drums start rolling and the low end starts moving. Horn shots cut through the mix. Fills and little rhythmic switches pop up in all the right places, keeping things restless without ever crowding the hook. Yes, it sits in liquid and soulful territory. But there’s real weight here, and it bounces. This one works on headphones on the night bus and in a sweaty basement at 2am. Rooftop at golden hour? Absolutely. Festival tent packed wall to wall? Even better.

His DJ sets run on the same logic, swinging between vocal records and heavier selections while keeping the energy where a Drum & Bass floor wants it. With ‘Just Walk Away’, he bottles that approach and takes it straight into the studio.

It’s a natural fit for the label too. Founded by Vibe Chemistry, Make Your Era has built its name on backing emerging talent across the wider spread of Drum & Bass, and Medicine slots right in.

We’re chuffed to host the premiere. Turn it up, find your nearest subwoofer and let that vocal do the rest.
