Premiere: Stuart King – Chanjira (Mongo Remix)

High Tide Recordings serve up a fantastic fifth release that is from Stuart King. He offers two fresh new tunes and one features Sophie Moleta, while the high riding Mongo contributes a great remix for our debut transmission.

Though an esteemed solo artist, King is also known as one half of Sunday Club, a duo behind some epic house on the legendary Stress Records. He has lived through the breakdancing era, the acid house explosion and promoted his own parties in war bunkers, and recently played Warung in Brazil during Carnival, so is experienced on many levels and brings all that know-how to the label whenever he gets in the studio. A veteran of the Radio 1 Essential Mix and labels like Baroque, Stripped and Valour, his latest album, Late Night Obsessions (which hit the No.2 spot in the UK iTunes chart for Electronic Music) has an infectious and fresh sound that veers from house to disco to deeper stuff, always with warmth and soul. This new EP is another fine release from the pivotal figure and is sure to be the track of the year.

An excellent remix comes from Mongo, whose last two releases have hit the upper end of the Beatport Chart and have made them real men of the moment. Here they prove this once more, with a version that is more driving and dark, with forceful kicks but just as much spirituality in the atmosphere.

This is an perfect atmospheric EP filled with great synth work and essential grooves.

Grahame Farmer

Grahame Farmer’s love affair with electronic music goes back to the mid-90s when he first began to venture into the UK’s beloved rave culture, finding himself interlaced with some of the country’s most seminal club spaces. A trip to dance music’s anointed holy ground of Ibiza in 1997 then cemented his sense of purpose and laid the foundations for what was to come over the next few decades of his marriage to the music industry.
