The Sounds That Shaped Me: Alyx Ander

The hugely talented Miami producer Alyx Ander has teamed up with fast-rising Croatian duo Dallerium to produce an unmissable house version of the Jennifer Hudson classic ‘Spotlight’. U.S. vocalist Kaleena Zanders steps up to deliver a stunning vocal on this version which came out on Perfect Havoc Records on 21st February.

The original track gave Jennifer Hudson her first chart hit around the world and while this updated house version takes the trackback to the dance floor, it has all the credentials required to become a hit of its own.

Alyx Ander is a widely recognised talent, with Pete Tong himself premiering his debut track ‘Close Enough’. The producer originally from Queens, New York is a classically trained musician, but as soon as he experienced the likes of Danny Tenaglia, Jonathan Peters and Tiësto at infamous NYC clubs like Sound Factory and Exit, he knew his future lay in electronic music.

“In 2005, I left my hometown of Queens, New York to start a new chapter of my life in Miami. Since moving to the Magic City, it has shaped me in innumerable ways, both as a person and as an artist.

When I first arrived, the Latin influences within communities like Coral Gables and Doral felt almost a homecoming that spoke to my Venezuelan roots, while the rush and excitement of downtown and the beach energized the New Yorker within me that had grown up spending my nights at venues like Pacha. Perhaps the most exotic shock to a kid from Queens however, were the famed pool and beach parties along Collins Avenue in South Beach. Properties like The Delano, Surfcomber and Nikki Beach showed me a whole new way of experiencing club culture in a way that was distinctively ‘Miami’. Now, as a recording artist and DJ, the sounds and music I discovered here inescapably influence the songs that I produce and play out. I can honestly say now that Miami has become part of me in every way and as much as New York is.

These five songs all mean something special to me and remind me why I choose to live here.”

Joeski feat. Héctor Lavoe ‘Dia De Ayer’

Dia De Ayer is a famous Latin song and Joeski’s remake is amazing. If you’ve heard my remix of Armin Van Buuren’s “Blah Blah Blah,” you’ll spot the influence immediately.

Ricardo Villalobos & Reboot ‘Caminando’

Nothing reminds me more of my early visits to Space than this song.

Axwell ‘Watch The Sunrise’

I’m a huge Axwell fan, and this prime pool party song is one of the reasons why.

Tiësto ‘Feel It In My Bones’ ft. Tegan and Sara

Everyone has that one song that reminds them of that one mind-blowing night at Ultra. For me, this is it.

Uncle Luke ‘The U Song’ (Miami Hurricanes)

Attending The U (University of Miami) was one of the best experiences of my life. I’ll forever be a Cane and this song from ESPN’s 30 for 30 TV special still gives me chills.
