Purple Disco Machine/James Silk – My House/These Sheets
Label: OFFScore: 8/10
Soulful, sample heavy fare has long been the preserve of Andre Crom’s OFF label. Their 60th release sees them turn their hand to more of the same, with Dresden producers Purple Disco Machine unleashing the A-side and Liverpool’s James Silk unleashing the B-side respectively.
And boy, this is not a release lacking in soul. Indeed, sultry disco hues are the order of the day on Purple Disco Machine’s most luscious ”My House”. The emphasis on the loop is cleverly executed, while the Isley Brother’s occasional crooning plays an equally pertinent role. Accessible house fare that’s sure to go down a storm on the floors.
James Silk then takes charge on ”These Sheets” – something of an ironic title considering the sample roots of the A-side. With previous on Defected, Get Physical and Exploited, Silk is nothing is not an astute signing to the OFF camp, and he does his reputation no harm whatsoever here, turning in a heavy dollop of funk draped house that’s sure to get bodies dancing in unison. Clever stuff indeed.
