Mix Of The Day: Rough Fields

Occasionally we like to go off the beaten track here at DT and deliver something that catches our fans by surprise so after a week of stellar week of mixes we’d go left-field and invite one of previous podcast contributors back to deliver another set of eclectically selected gems for your aural delights today. Step forward Rough Fields.

Rough Fields is the operating name of James Birchall, an electro-acoustic composer, lo fi/noise/folk artist and electronica currently based in the electronic hotbed that is producer from Manchester.  After wowing us with a sleek set of productions that range across several genres the man from the north is almost impossible to describe as anything other than cool but we’ll have a go anyway. His sound brings together the disparate strands of his previous musical paths through folk, classical, rock, minimalism, electronica, electro-acoustic and experimental composition. Imagine Steve Reich crossed with James Holden and some Desolat flavorings thrown in and you wouldn’t be far off.
