Damon Kirkham’s last outing as Jon Convex – With You, as released his own Convex Industries Digital imprint – was seemingly too airy for most people, this despite being backed up by a gorgeously fluid reworking under his Kid Drama moniker. As if a riposte, Losing Time carries the sort of direct angular heft that is guaranteed to shake any variety of darkened rooms.
Typewriter clicks and electro claps add a swing that belies the straight laced nature of the track, a perfect anchor for the tube train rush breakdown that filters through the pivotal midsection. Tougher still, TX is like being hit in the chest with a large shoulder of lamb, the accompaniment for this beating being gnarled and twisted with deflating synths, with only the briefest of respite coming from a blissful piece of mid-track ambience.
It is TX that chosen remixers, Ore and dBridge, are tasked with addressing. Autonomic compatriot dBridge goes for a stripped back piece of slomo angular electro, with the other end of the intensity spectrum explored by Ore, opting for an experience that is like being trapped in a churning industrial sized washing machine with an assortment of pots and pans. The former edges it if you were to pit them head to head, adding an alternative angle to a comprehensively banging little package.
