Felix Cage – Body To Body
Label: SpagatScore: 8/10
Felix Cage seems to have a knack for thought-provoking house music. It’s a trait of his that’s been aptly demonstrated on his many outings on his own Electronical Reeds label, and it’s one that’s explored even further this time thanks to his inaugural outing on the longstanding Berlin based label, Spagat.
Atmospheric leanings therefore, are very much the order of the day on Body To Body, a two-tracker that’s bursting at the seems with luscious melodies, whimsical kicks and tough-to-pigeonhole sounds. At its very essence, the title track is a ‘house’ track, but it’s also one that’s infused with a charming, elongated vibe that pushes it toward progressive territory. As the press release for the track notes, ‘it’s a track that’s perfect for the more intimate moments on the dancefloor’ – and they’re not far wrong.
The B-side is a decidedly more melancholic affair, as Cage revisits the sort of template he adhered to with such aplomb on both ‘A Cat On A Ledge‘ and ‘Magda & Magdalena‘. Make no mistake, though, Cage is no one trick pony – and ‘Treat Her Like a Lady‘ is testament to the fact. Cleverly looped but with taught percussion a familiar trait throughout, it leans on its bristling, sense-heightening melodies to add a thorough dose of personality and wit. This is meticulously crafted electronica that reeks of a very personal nature – and the sounds of a producer beginning to make his mark on the wider house music world in general.
