Cern & Verb – Degeneration

Put a hard hat on because this ones set you hit you over the head. Hard. Dispatch continues their relentless slew of tracks in 2013, this time on Dispatch LTD with Degeneration.

With Cern and Verb at the controls, Degeneration presents itself almost as a nod to the slightly older Metalheadz sound. Dark, steppy and all out menacing it’s one you can certainly file under the term screw face material. Eardrum hammering break switches and edits give the haunting pads room to run around over the top. It’s an all out assault of drums, which works absolutely fine for me.

Luton and Belgium collide on the AA side effort Shrapnel by DBR UK and MTWN. A steady mix of shuffling percussion and a head rumbling sub bass, Shrapnel skips along and demands your head and neck nods along with it. A quality change of pace to the war music served up by Degeneration.

Two quality cuts, different in style but perfectly suited to each other on this single. Degeneration is the weapon to deliver that knockout punch with its no nonsense snare drum hits while Shrapnel and its low frequencies give you those thudding chest jabs. Boxing analogy aside, these are tracks worthy of your attention.

Grahame Farmer’s love affair with electronic music goes back to the mid-90s when he first began to venture into the UK’s beloved rave culture, finding himself interlaced with some of the country’s most seminal club spaces. A trip to dance music’s anointed holy ground of Ibiza in 1997 then cemented his sense of purpose and laid the foundations for what was to come over the next few decades of his marriage to the music industry.
