Bensley gives us his Top 10 D&B tracks


Acclaimed Canadian Drum & Bass artist Bensley is about to drop a new single on deadmau5‘s label mau5trap. ‘Never Enough’ is one of the leading singles from mau5trap‘s annual ‘We Are Friends’ compilation. Bensley‘s single drops on Friday 16th December (grab it from here!) and the full ‘We Are Friends Vol 11’ album is set to follow next year. Previous singles from ‘WAF11’ include ‘XYZ’ by deadmau5 and ‘Transitory’ by Kasablanca. Bensley made his mau5trap debut with double single ‘Leaving / Debonair’ back in January of this year, showcasing both an intricate knowledge of production and a dancefloor know-how that positions him as one of Drum & Bass’ most exciting artists.

Bensley is fast cementing his status as one of Canada’s most exciting young producers. Armed with impressive production knowledge and a proven track record in dance music, Bensley has carved out a signature sound that brims with influences spanning manydifferent genres. With its impactful nature and bass-heavy undertones, Bensley’s music screams dancefloor appeal; allwhile retaining an intricate musicality that all electronic music fans will admire. Bensley has solidified his success in recent years with an impressive catalogue of releases, boasting over 15 million streams on Spotify alone. Top dance labels Monstercat, Deadbeats, RAM Records, mau5trap, Nightmode and UKF are all home to Bensley’s music. Bensley’s most impactful releases include ‘Hit The Lights / Slow Motion’, ‘Roll The Dice’, ‘Leaving / Debonair’, ‘That Feeling’,’All Night’, ‘Vex’, ‘Fandango’, ‘One Last Chance’ and 2019 album ‘Muskoka‘. He’s also done official remixes for Zeds Dead, Flux Pavilion, Camo & Krooked, Eliminate, Delta Heavy and more.

To coincide with the release of ‘Never Enough’, we caught up with Bensley for the first time in a while and he gave us his Top 10 of personal favourite Drum & Bass records. Read on to find out what they are!

1. Bensley – Never Enough

Never Enough is my brand new single, which just dropped on deadmau5’s label mau5trap. This is one of my favourite tracks I’ve ever made! I’m proud to put this one out as my final release of 2022.

2. Justin Hawkes – Heliocycle

It’s impossible to pick a singular standout track from Justin Hawkes’ ‘Existential’ album, so this is just one favourite of many! A beautiful (and underrated) track.

3. Noisia & Halogenix – Wordless

I love the mood and atmosphere captured in this track. It’s all the production prowess you’d expect from these guys, with a beautiful melancholic edge. Hands down one of my favourites from 2022.

4. Skantia – Confused

Skantia is one of the most exciting artists in drum & bass right now. The production skill on display in this track is truly something to behold.

5. The Upbeats – All Over You

The Upbeats can never put a foot wrong, and this tune is no different. Lots of interesting elements at play here and a super catchy vocal. Dreamy!

6. AIRGLO – Babylon

This track got me hooked immediately and ticks a lot of boxes. The perfect mix of bassline, drums and vocals. Excited to see what AIRGLO does next!

7. Mefjus & Camo & Krooked – Break Away

Anyone who knows me knows I’m a longtime fan of Camo & Krooked. Their MODUS project with Mefjus is a match made in heaven. This track encompasses everything I love about these guys!

8. The Caracal Project – The lights on your face.

We can’t talk about drum & bass in 2022 without mentioning The Caracal Project. He deserves all the love he’s gotten this year and this track pushes the boundaries of what’s really possible in our genre.

9. Going Quantum & hayve – Double Tap

I’ve been playing this track out in my sets all year, the energy is insane. Never fails to get the crowd moving!

10. Sub Focus – It’s Time (ft. Gene Farris)

Another favourite of mine from 2022. Sub Focus really nails the vibe here. It simply doesn’t get catchier than this.
