Aquarius Heaven – Parallela Mundi

We know it’s clichéd but there are  certain performers you have just have to see live to appreciate exactly how good their music is. Thus when we found out two such artists in Aquarius Heaven and electro princess Miss Kittin had collaborated for a track we were more than a little excited.

For those of you not yet acquainted with Aquarius Heaven he’s the mad cap Caribbean former dance hall star turned electronica producer who announced himself to the world back in 2011 with a series of energetic live performances across the globe and the excellent Can’t Buy Love on Wolf + Lamb.

For his latest release Parallela Mundi, we see the Berlin based eccentric undertaking a series of well judged collaborations. For the standout track of the release Slow Love, he’s teamed up with French producer and vocalist Miss Kittin to inject her icy, new-wave vocals into a brooding, sensual duet with him over the simmering 4/4 beat. His unmistakable  rasping accent contrasts perfectly with her French overtones to make for an unlikely but strangely harmonized collaboration. Also on the EP are strong efforts that see joint efforts between Aquarius and dOP’s resident beatsmiths Damien and Clement and they provide a variety of different backdrops for his poetry-cum-singing-cum rapping  from skipping machinedrum grooves to funkier guitar infused sounds all the way across to the more credible side of Trap on Up and Down, Early Bird and Caloni.

We’re not sure how many geuine ‘duets’ we’ve ever heard in electronic music but with a release as strong as this we think  Mr. Aquarius and Miss Kittin might be on to something…
