5 Artists You Need to Check Out This Month: November

At Data Transmission we’re firm believers that the essence of the beautiful is unity in variety and in that variety we always look to broaden our horizons with new music, DJs & parties!

Each month, we ask our staff, writers & contributors to look ahead at the coming months’ events and look a little beyond the obvious headline acts to find some interesting, new and exciting DJs, that you must check out and get on your radar.

This month Anna picks her 5 for November.

Stu Robinson (ASOK) is no newcomer; in fact he’s been building up an impressive record collection for the best part of 20 years. It was surrounding his 2014-16 releases on M>O>S Recordings, Crème Organization, and DVS1’s Mistress that heralded support from the likes of Ben Sims, Neville Watson and John Heckle that positioned this Liverpool native firmly alongside his producer counterparts. This year he joined the ranks of Lobster Thermin as well as focusing on new imprint Four Triangles. His forthcoming ‘Hypercolour’ EP is a heady infusion of techno, acid house, rave breaks and dub made from dusty tape-infused live recordings.

For the studio set up he favours the hardware synth side of life including the Roland JX-8P, Microkorg and Waldorf Blofeld. This month he returns to Berghain to play alongside the likes of Levon Vincent, The Black Madonna, ItaloJohnson, Dinky and Maragaret Dygas at Panorama bar.

Ireen Amnes

Ireen is one of London’s best kept secrets. Moving to the big smoke from her hometown in Rome, Italy 7 years ago she’s entrusted an admirable amount of her time and efforts into perfecting a sound that is truly unique. With some of the most intricate sound design imaginable her music perfects soundscapes and moods ranging from emotive and ambient electronica to rolling techno cuts that beg to be road-tested in Berghain. With the productions she’s crafted so far there’s well over an album’s worth of material ready to be let loose on the world.

Find her frequenting London’s Koodeta parties at various venues and a regular at Berlin’s Sisyphos. Most recently she graced Tanzaus West in Frankfurt alongside an all-star line-up including Dustin Zahn, Tommy Four Seven, Marco Zenker and Cinthie. Over the last 5 years she’s also been curating her own party series Under My Feet inviting a solid selection of artists to come play alongside her late night jaunts. This month will be a special one as she’s invited Bristol’s Livity Sound mainstay Hodge and End Train along for the ride.

Tom Bulwer

This has evidently been a year of momentum for Brussels-born Londoner Tom Bulwer and we love to see hard work paying dividends. From his TB Audio studio at Hackney Wick in London he’s been making a successful business of mixing and mastering for some of the most respected labels, local talent and up-and-coming acts worldwide. This summer he launched a new vinyl only imprint Parasol Culture that has been heavily supported by the record stores including Phonica and Kristina and has subsequently sold out in both. The EP itself has seen praise from the likes of Cinthie, Melon, Mr Beatnick, Bloody Mary and Voigtmann of Toi Toi Musik.

Tom spins regularly for The Sunday Afters and this September he made his Fabric nightclub debut for WetYourSelf! alongside fellow Londoner Dexter Kane and Ben Rau. Tom and Dexter have also started a much-loved party series together called Alternate Facts; find them throwing day/night parties in various unsuspecting and off-kilter locations across the city. Together they blur the lines of UK house and Romanian stripped back techno.

Georgia Girl

Georgia or GG to her friends has been a staple in the London scene back from the days that she used to work in the world renowned (and now sadly defunct – RIP) Blackmarket Records. As with any DJ with access to such an enticing amount of records on the daily, she subsequently built up an impressive collection of wax over the years. A regular voice on the airwaves Georgia has hosted shows on Rinse FM, RTS.FM and Project London Radio to name a few. She’s been a solid fixture in London and Berlin line-ups playing at some of most prolific parties including the Sunday safe-haven Keep On Going. This month she’ll be celebrating with the legendary party Half Baked as they see in their 8 Year Birthday with an all-star line-up including Objekt, Francesco Del Garda, Vera, Mike Shannon and many more. Not to be missed.

Charles Green

Brighton resident Charles Green is an exceptional attribute to the seaside town’s latest club venture Patterns. As well as regular trips down to London to play the long standing after-hours party Jaded, he’s made a name for himself through his well-crafted sets and eclectic selections. Since its inception Patterns has taken pride in forward-thinking bookings and has seen Charles play alongside the likes of Function, Move D, Mike Servito, Pearson Sound, The Zenker Brothers, Secretsundaze and Vril (live) to name a few – an impressive list that in itself shows his diversity to play to varying crowds.

His latest release ‘Soul Figures EP’ on the aforementioned ASOK’s label Four Triangles is a 5-tracker full of live recordings and low-fi drum sequences packed with copious amounts of energy, plus the hypnotic beatless ‘Soul Figures’ equipped with dreamy pads that compliments the dancefloor jams perfectly.
