420 - D.Ramirez - Data Transmission

Whether it’s natural talent or simply luck, Dean Marriot, known to the world as D.Ramirez, holds the secret to musical success. Since kicking off his production career in the late ’80s, the Yorkshire-born producer has repeatedly turned out essential house records, initially smashing the white label market as the Lisa Marie Experience with partner Neil Hinde (remember ‘Do That To Me’ and ‘Keep On Jumpin”?). Then 2006 rolled around, and with it, Bodyrox‘s ‘Yeah Yeah’; now under his solo moniker, Dean was charged with remixing the track and adding in Luciana‘s fiery vocal line, and then as they say, the rest is history.

Despite being credited with reinventing electro house with this mid-noughties mega hit, Dean has shied away from the commercial direction the genre has taken since. So what is he up to now? Well, Dean’s latest project, Motherload – co-run by pal Guy Williams – is designed to bring the very best in jackin beats, deep house and disco to London every month. Taking place at Islington’s East Bloc, Motherload began its 2015 run last Friday, beating back the miserable weather with purely positive vibes. In conjunction with the series, Dean and Guy hit the studio too, dropping The Motherload EP via Great Stuff Recordings back in September last year.

It’s not just East Bloc benefiting from Dean’s devotion to house either, as he’s whipped up a mix of the very finest in 4/4, exclusively for Data Transmission!

What’s your personal favourite track on it?
Of course I would say a D.Ramirez track but that would be a little narcissistic, so I’ll go for my second choice and say Mirco Caruso ‘Siren’ which just gets me!

What’s the special ingredient in this mix?
It’s kinda all over the place ranging from deep to techno to nu disco – I’ve always loved the genre spanning thing

What’s the best gig you’ve played recently?
It would have to be Motherload at East Bloc in London back on the 28th of November last year. Guy Williams and I play from start until finish, it’s a great night – you should come to the next one!

What have you got coming up?
Production wise, I have a new E.P with Great Stuff and I’ve got a couple of remixes coming out, one called ‘Jack Me’ on Westway and a remix of Chilly Hifi’s ‘Is It Love’ on Central Station…
