DT970 – FIFI FORTE

Share

FIFI FORTE joins us on the podcast this week, landing at exactly the right time as her new ‘Gain My Trust EP’ arrives on Diggin’ Records.

The London DJ and producer has been steadily building her name through releases on Hottrax, Deeperfect, Pakate and Libero, with her recent output picking up support from the likes of Jamie Jones, Dennis Cruz, Joseph Capriati and Marco Carola. Now she makes her Diggin’ debut with three tracks that get straight to the point: rolling basslines, stripped-back percussion and a clear nod to the house records that shaped her sound.

The EP moves through three different shades of FIFI. ‘Gain My Trust’ carries the bigger vocal-led energy, ‘444’ heads deeper and more hypnotic, while ‘Ur Just Fine’ brings a warmer, Latin-leaning groove into the picture. It is a tight snapshot of where she is musically right now, confident, groove-led and built firmly with the club in mind.

That same thinking runs through this week’s mix.

There is plenty of swing in here, with Ray Okpara, Paolo Martini, Simon Kidzoo, Fede Aliprandi and wAFF all helping keep things rolling, while cuts from Harvee, Ell Jordan and Jordan Moxey, Chris Main and Foynez push the energy into tougher territory.

FIFI also drops two of her own records into the session, with ‘444’ appearing early before ‘Gain My Trust’ closes things out. It gives the mix a nice link back to the new EP without turning the whole thing into a promo exercise.

This is a selector’s mix first. Funky, percussive and patient when it needs to be, then properly lively once it gets moving. The kind of set that could start on a rooftop and quite happily end several hours later in a basement.

Sum up this podcast in 10 words…

Groovy and funky, with deeper moments and feel-good energy.

What’s your personal favourite track on it?

444 is my favourite track in the mix. It’s the third track on my recent EP, and it has a more hypnotic feel that I’ve really been enjoying playing out.

What’s the special ingredient in this mix?

I wanted to keep it groovy and rolling, with a mix of funky drums, vocals and tracks that work well together.

What have you got coming up?

There’s lots coming up that I’m really excited about. I’m playing some London staples like fabric and KOKO, as well as Paradise in Ibiza and ADE, and Eastenderz at WHP. I’ve also got some exciting collaborations and remixes in the works that I can’t wait to share. More than anything, I’m just excited to keep putting music out there and reaching new people and listeners along the way.

And finally, do you have a special message for our readers?

Whether you’ve listened to a track, played one during a set, come to a show or even just sent me a nice message, I never take any of it for granted. I’m really grateful for all the support and so excited for everything that’s ahead.
