Kolectiv Unveil Their Debut Drum & Bass Album ‘Circadian Rhythms’

Share

London’s own Kolectiv are about to drop their debut Drum & Bass LP, ‘Circadian Rhythms’, and trust us, it’s proper heads territory. After five years of meticulous planning, writing, and refining, these two sonic wizards have unleashed an album that pins you to the dancefloor and refuses to let go. If you’re looking for a soundtrack to your next night in a sweat-drenched basement, look no further.

Kolectiv aren’t just dabbling in Drum & Bass; they live and breathe it. Spawned in the aftermath of the pandemic, ‘Circadian Rhythms’ is an ode to the underground, capturing the essence of those lost nights spent wrapped in basslines and beats. “Going out to Drum & Bass nights, you’d hear so many different flavours across six or seven hours. We wanted the album to follow that same arc – like a circadian rhythm, a natural flow of time, but in this case the cycle of a rave,” the duo explains.

From the first drop, you know you’re in for a ride. This album is dancefloor-damaging from the get-go, with basslines that shake the walls of your local club. Kolectiv’s sound design is on point, blending their own recorded samples with sizzling sessions on keys, drums, and guitars. Add in vocals from the likes of PAV4N, Hijak MC, Illmatika, and Kerry Donnelly, and you’ve got a sonic tapestry that’s as vibrant as the scene itself.

The pandemic made us realise we are very offline when it comes to making music. Being in the studio in person, playing with real instruments and analog synths, jamming. When we decided to make an album these things were at the forefront. We took the opportunity to refurbish and update the studio after we made the core of the album and focus on finishing it to the highest level we could. The album is made using sounds we created & music we composed & played. All the samples that we did use mean something to us, whether that be a vocal sample or musical. Overall its a body of work we are really proud of and accurately represents what we think about dnb. – Kolectiv

The magic of ‘Circadian Rhythms’ lies in its journey. This isn’t just a collection of bangers. It’s a cradle-to-grave experience, mapping the highs and lows of a rave through an audio diary. Picture yourself at a liquid rollers night, hands in the air, as the groove carries you from the first beat to the sunrise. That’s what Kolectiv have crafted: a tribute to the music and culture that shaped them.

The album coincided with a fresh studio overhaul, giving Kolectiv the clarity to finalise and mix with pinpoint precision. It’s not just about the tracks; it’s about creating an atmosphere, a complete listening experience. With ‘Circadian Rhythms’, they’ve not only dropped an album, they’ve written a love letter to Drum & Bass culture.
