Spring Revisited is a new project that is revisiting classic disco, R&B, and funk tracks from the ‘70s, and invites influential house music aficionados to modernise them.
The first instalment sees Dimitri From Paris and OPOLOPO remix “We Got to Hit It Off” by Millie Jackson. Part of what makes this series so special, is the remix artists getting full access to the untouched original recordings. So, rather than have limited access to loops, they can remix the track from the ground up. Meaning they can either keep the original’s structure intact or transform it into something completely new.
Millie Jackson is a Grammy nominated artist, and her track “We Got to Hit It Off” has a resonating vocal about female empowerment.
Dimitri From Paris is a French artist, and modern-day music legend who has close ties to Defected Records and their Glitterbox events. His version is a remake of the original, and apart from a sprinkling of extra percussion, it’s basically just the original with modern-day production. He also provides a ‘Dub Mix’ removing segments of the vocal to create space which he fills with some trumpets and synth pads.
OPOLOPO is more adventurous with his versions, as he adds a synth bass that complements the original’s parts, while also adding some additional funk to the groove. It’s his ‘Deeper Remix’ that really stands out from the original, as he adds some prominent new drum sounds, and a magnificent pad that brings real depth to the groove.
Anyone who already knows the original won’t be disappointed with these new versions.
