Joe Turner – Crystal Clear (LG105)

Share

An upbeat Duke Dumont-esque number from South-London-Based multi instrumentalist & producer Joe Turner who has recently been releasing under his own name, having previously been collaborating on a number of projects wearing various musical hats including guitarist, composer and producer.

Joe’s most recent release ‘Malibak’ earlier this year, also on boutique new label LG105 (a Caroline International imprint) was a clubby driving synth-laden effort sprinkled with ethnic samples.

‘Crystal Clear’ continues the theme of warm rhythmic dancefloor friendly beats with a bouncy
bassline that feels vaguely reminiscent. A filtered vocal adds a slightly more commercial touch to previous efforts, guaranteed to appeal to a wide audience that probably isn’t going to any Ibiza day parties after all this year, but would have included Crystal Clear in their 2020 summer anthems.

Far from just a cheap summer hook, there is a depth of musicality that betrays Joe’s background.

Early support from John Digweed in one of his now legendary lockdown bunker sessions
evidences the versatility of this feel-good well-produced melodic track.

A 2020 summer smash expected to climb the melodic and deep house charts on release.

Score: 9/10
