Violet Poison, whose work has seen appearances on the likes of Bed of Nails, Repitch, Opal Tapes and his own Violet Poison label, makes the Italian a formidable mercenary.

‘All Are Welcome in the House of Lust’ presents its aesthetic clearly – retro inspired future techno. Kick drum, snare, bassline used to their full potential. Hi hats are a producer’s number one call to arms for raising energy and pace. So it’s refreshing to see them in the back burner while the snare takes control.

‘The Yearning’ seizes the bull by the horns. Unpredictable kicks,a fast paced arpeggio with nagging vocals in tandem make for a sense of rushed urgency – in the best way possible. It would seem that hounding vocals (at times sounding like a moaning spouse) are a source of inspiration for Violet Poison, as they serve as a centrepiece – whether it’s over the distorted skeleton of ‘The Gaze’ or the psychedelic lo-fi 808s of ‘The Foreplay’, Poison formulates something quite imitable.

The techno auteur rounds things off nicely with ‘The Act’, the final act’s stuttering rhythm makes for a good send off, though its intermission-like feel leaves the ear craving for more.
