Renegade Riddims: FooR

The collection of artists from Southampton known as FooR are a dance music crew made up of artists, Gavin Foord, Tyrone, Aki (Bear Like) and Jon Doe (CLSM).

The group were instrumental in the revival of the UK Garage scene, compiling and mixing the 2017 edition of ‘Pure Garage’; since, the group have made waves in the UK Bassline scene, charting in the Top 10 of the Official UK Dance Charts with their 2018 album, ‘Friends of FooR’. In 2020, the group released their debut Drum & Bass release as they switched up styles again, showcasing their versatility across the underground dance music scene.

Independent artists in their own right, the majority of FooR’s releases have been through their own labels; SO, Garage Shared, GS Dubs, YosH and YosH Bass. However, the group had a number of signed releases to the likes of Warner Music and Relentless, including the 2020 single, ‘Fresh’, which was featured in the Coors Light advertising campaign.

The group’s multi-genre experience makes them one of the most unique live acts and as such the group have toured and performed across the UK and Europe, playing iconic venues such as Ushuaia, Amnesia Ibiza, XOYO London and at festivals such as Creamfields, Boomtown, Isle of Wight Festival, WE ARE FSTVL, NASS, Pier Jam and more.

I first met the guys from FooR a few years ago at Foreverland Manchester, and they are some of the nicest and most fun people I’ve met during my time in the dance music industry. Since then DT has supported them with premieres and a Mix Of The Day. This was a series we used to run but have had to stop because we have so many mix series across the spectrum of dance music now, but you can click the link here to check it out.

It gives me great pleasure to showcase a brand new Drum & Bass mix from the group. This mix features music from almost all sub-genres of D&B and is full of energy and bound to get you pumped for your nights out this weekend. What’s your personal favourite track on it?

The first track ‘If I Found U’ is our new single with fellow Southampton producer, been years in the making so feels good for it to be finally getting out there.

What’s the special ingredient in this mix?

Organized chaos, just put a load of music we liked on a USB, got on the decks, pressed record & see what happens

Tell us about your next EP?

We are releasing lots of singles this year, might end up leading into an album or two, just going to keep creating & see what happens.

What have you got coming up? 

As well as producing we run record labels (YosH, Garage Shared, GS Dubs, SO, YosH Bass), we run a project called ‘Sounds Of Southampton’ which gives artists funds & resources to release their first-ever tracks.

When was the last time you actually raved?

We still go out all the time but actual proper dancing all night raving, not for a long time.
