DT568 – Treasure Fingers & Vanilla Ace

Having clocked in over a decade transforming and progressing the electronic music genre, Atlanta producer, DJ, creative director, designer, illustrator, and video director Treasure Fingers has established one of the most sought after careers in modern music.

Beginning with his days in legendary drum & bass group Evol Intent, Treasure Fingers, real name Ashley Jones, has managed to manipulate and transform genres and solidify his reputation as an untameable force of production versatility. Whether it be one of his own productions that saw release via one of the many leading electronic music labels including Fool’s Gold, Sweat It Out, Defected, Ministry of Sound, or Perfect Driver, his endless stream of Hype Machine #1s, or one of his high-profile official remixes for artists including Miike Snow, Kid Cudi, Little Boots, Chromeo, Estelle, Empire Of The Sun, and more, Jones has found himself as one of the most in-demand tastemakers today. This demand has also led Jones to tour across six continents (sorry Antarctica) multiple times, with many of those dates including world-renowned festivals such as Electric Daisy Carnival, Ultra, CRSSD, Stereosonic, AmsterdamOpenAir, TomorrowWorld, and Nocturnal Wonderland to name a few.

He’s teaming up with Vanilla Ace for a big US Tour through December, the boys head out to some of their favourite haunts, from LA to Chicago for what will undoubtedly be a sweaty and fun Psycho Disco affair. They are also about to drop a new EP, which drops on the 17th November on Psycho Disco!. Vanilla Ace, having one of his most successful years yet, he brings his UK influence alongside the southern bounce from Treasure Fingers to the title track “Sweat” which careens up and down through influences and mood – a Western Asian horn melody takes you straight into a driving 808 drum loop, perfectly delivering what the track encourages – make you sweat. The second track “Crazy” is a perfect late-night burner, a strong House simmer that’s a solid addition to DJ sets the world over.

Check out the dates here, to celebrate the tour we asked them to mix this weekend podcast together.

Sum up this podcast in 10 words…
Treasure Fingers: Pre-tour high intensity CDJ training to bulk for the club.

Vanilla Ace: Bad ass tunes that we will play on our tour.

What’s your personal favourite track on it?
Treasure Fingers: Super hard to pick a favorite, but I love how “Crazy” turned out. When Vanilla Ace & I first started chatting about doing some collabs, I had been stumped on this one demo forever, literally tried 9 different versions and was never happy. He worked on it and sent back this techy rework and it all made sense immediately. I was so psyched to hear it finally fixed up & sounding great, but a certified club heater at that.

Vanilla Ace: Sweat by Treasure Fingers and myself, its on our forthcoming EP of the same name.

What’s the special ingredient in this mix?
Treasure Fingers: Whiskey neat, lowered inhibitions, not overthinking things mixed with a lot of extremely cool new music.

Vanilla Ace: Telepathic connection between Atlanta and London and our crystal ball skills.

What’s the best gig you’ve played recently?
Treasure Fingers: My Psycho Disco party in Atlanta is always a blast. It’s been a hard city to push house music in, but things keep getting better and better. It’s been really nice seeing a regular crowd start building up & showing out each time.

Vanilla Ace: I did a great halloween party a few weeks back, dropped some old school UK garage and they were going mad for it.

What have you got coming up?
Treasure Fingers: I’ve been working on a bunch of filter disco stuff for a project that’s dropping sometime in the spring. Throwback to my earlier work but with a fresh current take on it. Aside from that, I’m pushing my label along pretty strong. Super proud of all the artists and tracks I’ve signed. 2018 should be a fun one for the whole crew.

Vanilla Ace: I have a big release coming soon on Ministry of Sound/Sony.

And finally, do you have a special message for our readers?
Treasure Fingers: Love you! Thanks for reading this to the very end. Tweet me a hearteyes, emoji so I know the feeling is mutual.

Vanilla Ace: Thanks for all the support this year on the releases. Look forward to seeing you on the dance floor during the US tour.

Grahame Farmer

Grahame Farmer’s love affair with electronic music goes back to the mid-90s when he first began to venture into the UK’s beloved rave culture, finding himself interlaced with some of the country’s most seminal club spaces. A trip to dance music’s anointed holy ground of Ibiza in 1997 then cemented his sense of purpose and laid the foundations for what was to come over the next few decades of his marriage to the music industry.
